The Koromo Koi is a very elegant Koi variety. It appears similar to a Kohaku, but on this variety there is a contrasting indigo color on the edge of each red scale. Meanwhile the shoroji, meaning white skin, should be as white and clean as possible. This subtle and unique coloration leaves a rather elegant Koi as if it wears an almost purple 'robe', which is the actual meaning for Koromo. Three types of Koromo are recognized. First is the Ai Goromo; showing a very subtle indigo effect. The second is the Budo Goromo; on this one the purple is far more heavily present, covering not only the edges of the scales. The third is called the Sumi Goromo; showing almost a black Kohaku, but the red is still clearly visible underneath.
