The Green Discus is an active tropical fish. It also suffers from very high stress levels and requires plenty of patience and dedication on the owner’s part.
The Green Discus fish has a disc-shaped body after which it is named. It is covered with nine dark vertical bands running across a yellowish-white background. Turquoise and blue markings are present on the upper parts of the body, and red spots on the lower parts. Red markings are also seen on the anal and dorsal fins.
A heavily planted tank with optimum non-toxic water conditions is necessary. Levels of chloramines (ammonia and chlorine) are kept low. Minimum aquarium size should be 42 x 15 x 15 cubic inches (40-gallon capacity). The tank can be decorated with rocks and caves. Subdued lighting is preferred. Weekly water changes are recommended.
