Species group: Mixed Breeds
Other name(s): Corkie
The basics:
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.
The first generation Corkie is a cross between a pure Cocker Spaniel and a pure Yorkshire Terrier, although subsequent generations may have different proportions of the two breeds in the mix. This so-called designer hybrid can be a beautiful little dog with a silky coat, and its personality can be appealing too.
Appearance / health:
While it's impossible to predict the exact traits inherited by a mixed-breed dog, the Corkie will be a sprightly little dog.
Behavior / temperament:
A properly socialized Corkie is a lot of fun but perhaps not so demanding of long walks in the outdoors as you might expect from a pure-breed Cocker Spaniel. They can make enjoyable apartment pets.
