Species group: Mixed Breeds
Other name(s): Maspyr
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.
The first generation Maspyr is a cross between a pure Bullmastiff and a pure Great Pyrenees, although subsequent generations may have different proportions of the two breeds in the mix. This so-called designer hybrid is intended to create a large guardian that is loyal to family and intimidating to strangers. You should be an experienced dog owner who knows how to socialize large protector breeds.
Note: The term Maspyr can also be applied to the cross between a Mastiff and a Great Pyrenees. Know your breeder and ask questions to be sure of what you're getting.
Appearance / health:
Be prepared to socialize and manage an animal that will grow up to be a giant.
Behavior / temperament:
Because of its size and intimidating appearance, you will need to take exceptional care to properly socialize the Maspyr. While it's impossible to predict the exact personality of a mixed-breed dog, they are likely to have a powerful protective instinct which will need to be properly channeled.
