Is the Braque de L'Ariege right for you?

Species group:

Other name(s): Ariege Pointer; Ariege Pointing Dog

The basics:
The Ariège Pointing Dog is a rare pointer that was developed in the Ariege region of the French Pyrenees to track and retrieve wild hare and partridge, although its keen sense of smell and tenacity can make it valuable for hunting a variety of other game. A very rare breed, it will probably only be found in the hands of serious experts and hunters.

Appearance / health:
The Ariège Pointing dog has a Braccoïd type appearance. It has a robust and strong body structure but not too heavy. It generally has lean legs and prominent muscles and well curved bodyline. The head is long and angular, the muzzle is long and straight, and the eyes are oval and not protruding. The forelegs are straight, with strong and muscular bone structure. The tail is docked usually by 4/10 and the ears are broad at the base and curled.

The breed requires regular brushing to keep their coats in good condition.

Behavior / temperament:
A well-trained Ariege Pointing Dog can display an exceptional ability to find game, thanks to its very strong sense of smell and its tireless enthusiasm for the hunt.

The breed is easy to train if you can provide the kind, consistent leadership of a true alpha.
