Species group: Mixed Breeds
Other name(s): Maltese Frise, Maltichon
The basics:
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.
The first generation Maltichon is a cross between a pure Maltese and a pure Bichon Frise, although subsequent generations may have different proportions of the two breeds in the mix. All mixed-breed dogs are individuals, but the purpose of this mix is to create a lively little apartment pet that fits happily into many modern family situations.
Appearance / health:
This popular designer mix usually produces a cute, small, low-shedding pet.
Behavior / temperament:
The personality traits of a mixed-breed dog can vary considerably, but the popularity of this breed attests to the fact that many owners find these lovable dogs to be happy, playful companions who do well even in apartments. Highly social, they don't respond well to being left alone for long hours during the day, so they do best where someone in the family is usually at home.
