Is the Australian Terrier Mix right for you?

Species group:

The basics:
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.

All mixed breeds are individuals but if you have a dog that appears to be mostly Australian Terrier, you're probably getting a rugged little dog good with active families who spend a lot of time playing with their pet and channeling its high energy.

Appearance / health:
While all mixed-breed dogs can vary in appearance, in general with the Australian Terrier mix you can expect a smallish, spirited terrier type.

Behavior / temperament:
While it's impossible to predict the exact traits inherited by a mixed-breed dog, assume the Australian Terrier mix will find trouble if you don't keep it busy. They may dig, chase your smaller pets and neighborhood animals-- or both. If you don't want an active companion by your side for most of the day, this mix might be the wrong choice.
