Species group: Mixed Breeds
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.
The pairing between an Australian Shepherd and a Saint Bernard isn't all that common, but you may occasionally encounter this mix in a rescue.
Appearance / health:
While all mixed-breed dogs can vary in appearance, the Australian Shepherd / Saint Bernard Mix has the potential to be very large-- and somewhat rambunctious.
Behavior / temperament:
While it's impossible to predict the exact personality of a mixed-breed dog, you had better be a confident owner who can manage a large, active dog that will need to learn not to jump up on its people. A well-socialized Australian Shepherd / Saint Bernard Mix could be a great hiking or backpacking companion.
