Species group: Mixed Breeds
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.
In an ideal world, the rare American Water Spaniel would not be used in mixes until the future of the breed is secure, but in the real world, accidents do happen and you may occasionally find this mix in a rescue.
Appearance / health:
While all mixed-breed dogs can vary in appearance, the American Water Spaniel mix is likely to be muscular, energetic, and outdoorsy.
Behavior / temperament:
While it's impossible to predict the exact personality of a mixed-breed dog, the parent breed is an intelligent, wide-ranging special purpose hunting dog. Depending on the other breeds in the mix, your American Water Spaniel Mix could give you the makings of a fine hunting companion. Even if you don't hunt, you should be active and outdoorsy to provide the most stimulation for this mix.
