Is this dog right for you?

Species group:

The basics:
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.

Suffice it to say that some breeders of this mix could be ill-intentioned, and abused individuals trained as attack dogs could represent a danger to the family or community. This is a powerful animal that should only be owned by experienced dog owners who know how to properly socialize a powerful guardian animal with a potentially dangerous bite.

These dogs could also be banned by your community or your insurer. Learn the law, and learn about the individual dog in question, before you choose this mix.

Appearance / health:
The appearance of a mixed breed tends to vary, and some will look more like the AmStaff while others will lean toward the Bulldog side of the family. In all cases, they will be impressively muscular dogs.

Behavior / temperament:
The personality of the two parent breeds is not dissimilar, so you can probably count on a dog with a capacity to be sweet and loving toward its own family and a guardian against outsiders. It is critical for you to be able to properly socialize and train this mix.
