Species group: Mixed Breeds
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.
The pairing between an American Akita and an American Blue Gascon Hound isn't all that common, but you may occasionally encounter this mix in a rescue.
Appearance / health:
While all mixed-breed dogs can vary in appearance, you can expect the unexpected with the American Akita / American Blue Gascon Hound Mix. This dog will be large.
Behavior / temperament:
While it's impossible to predict the exact personality of a mixed-breed dog, the American Akita / American Blue Gascon Hound Mix may represent a tougher challenge than average since the parent breeds were developed for such different purposes. Get to know the dog as an individual before you decide whether it's right for your home. If you need a special purpose hunting hound, you may do better with a pure American Blue Gascon Hound or another breed altogether.
