Species group: Mixed Breeds

Other name(s): Sheprador; Aussie Lab

The basics:
RightPet does not advocate the intentional cross-breeding of purebred dogs. But the reality is that most dogs available for adoption at shelters and rescues are mixed breeds. We think it might be helpful to hear from owners of these mixes to see what traits can be found in these dogs who are desperately needing homes.

Want a friendly dog with an amazing personality that also has the smarts and the determination to do serious work? Breeders sometimes cross-breed the alert, active Labrador Retriever, one of the world's most popular companions, with the super-intelligent Australian Shepherd, one of the world's most useful working dogs. Enthusiasts will tell you that the Australian Sheprador can have a great deal to recommend it. Of course, all mixed breed dogs are individuals, but if you have time, energy, and space for an active dog in your life, this mix might be the choice for you.

Appearance / health:
Cross-bred dogs aren't guaranteed to have a certain appearance but many Australian Shepherd / Labrador Retriever are good-sized energetic dogs in shades of black, tan, or tricolor.

Behavior / temperament:
With this heritage, expect an active, athletic dog that demands regular exercise with an active family that gets outdoors. A bored, undisciplined Australian Sheprador could become destructive.

from breeders/sellers

(Breeders and sellers have to jump through hoops to get RightPet listings, literally, we make them do circus tricks. Unfortunately no one has met our high acrobatic standards for this animal yet, but hopefully they will soon!)

(We've had no luck finding any of these frisky fellas so far, even though we've put up wanted posters and everything! But don't worry, we're working on it!)
