Nanday Conures - Loving & Sensitive

By

Nanday Conures are beautiful and exotic; their contrasting colours and little red pantaloons are just irresistible. They are relatively common in the pet trade but should not be acquired lightly; not only are they LOUD, they are also quite sensitive for Conures and are very susceptible to stress and some even become neurotic. Nandays are not only loud, but their pitch can also be physically uncomfortable for some people, so it's best to interact with one before you make a lifetime commitment. They are very dedicated to their owners and enjoy cuddling but they are not generally into rough play and few will ever learn to talk. Because they are so sensitive, they appear to be more prone to behavioural issues such as excessive screaming and plucking or other feather destructive behaviours. They are best suited to a home where the routine is relatively stable and predictable and they can look forward to plenty of daily interaction with their favourite person, but they are certainly not for everyone.
