Sweet and loving, Mealy Amazons have a well deserved reputation for being among the most gentle of the Amazon breed. While they can experience a period of aggression during adolescence, if you can tough it out, they make committed life long companions, living as long as 70 years if well cared for. Like others of their species, an Amazon that does not receive attention from its bonded human partner can fall into self destructive behavior. Your ability to provide adequate attention to this bird should be a significant factor in your choice.
