Conures and Cuddles

When I saw this little one at a local bird auction, I could not get my hand in my pocket fast enough! Noodle is a hand reared Green-Cheek/Pineapple sided Conure! Birds aren't always given the recognition they deserve as a companion... People assume you can't play with them, cuddle them, and do what you would do with a dog or a cat, but that's not true!

Birds make great pets! Conure's are relatively easy to care for, and with their small size they don't require a large space to live in. Noodle in particular hated her 5ft tall 2.5ft wide standing cage, so we downgraded and got her a smaller 2.5 cube cage. She only stays in her cage when we are not around or it is bedtime, but she has become so much happier and more comfortable since getting her a smaller cage.

She enjoys cuddles, and asks for them! It may be unusual to think a bird would want attention, but she will ask "What you doing?"... this usually means "Stop what you're doing and scratch my head."

Conures are also one of the only bird species who feels safe sleeping on their backs. She has a soft material hammock in the corner of her cage, in which she will lay on her back and sleep in. It's definitely too cute to see!
