We owned the bird for about 2 years. After that we found it a new home. My mother decided she wanted a bird, cause she had one as a child ad loved it.

So we got the bird from a small pet shop. At first it was all perfect, because it was a new family member and everything was exciting, but it soon became evident, why my grandparents got rid of the bird.

We live on a farm, all animals are outside, all the animal noises, messes and smells are outside. Nobody was used to having and animal inside. Still, we decided to try and give it a go anyway. We lasted for about 2 years. After that we gave it to my aunt who had just retired and needed an occupation desperately.

We learned from this experience that indoor pets are not a good fit for us, especially loud ones and in the future we'll stick to dogs and cats.

I also kind of think birds are not ideal as a pet if you have small children (toddlers). They tend to make a mess, even if you clean it all regularly.
