Sounds Just Like Me

I had the opportunity to care for one of these amazing birds for a short amount of time while house-sitting for a friend. African Greys are beautiful, intelligent, parrots. Newman could mimic the sound of the phone ringing, tricking anyone who ran to the phone, as well as answer the phone himself, "Hello? Just a minute."

He also learned how to scold the children in his home because he heard the adults doing it often enough to catch on to their tone of voice and names of the children.

The neatest thing about Newman, is that his speaking voice sounded exactly like his owner's voice...exactly. If you would enter his home, he would say, "Hello?" And you would swear it was his owner speaking to you.

These are larger parrots and need to be handled often to maintain their friendliness, so they probably aren't the best beginner bird for a newbie, but they sure are amazing!
