Intelligent and fun, but I was allergic!

We owned an African grey parrot for a brief amount of time a few years ago. The animal was intelligent and would mimic countless words and phrases, including some off-color statements in polite company. I discovered very quickly that I was allergic to the bird's dander (and the dander was everywhere)! We had to ask a relative to adopt the bird, and I don't miss him that much. African grey parrots live a long time. If you can tolerate the dander and the attitude, they can make for lifelong companions.
