My experience with birds is moderate I would say although we had a few of them in the family. The interest for the birds was more my daughters then my own but what dont you do for your kids when they start the puppy eye treatment.

I will actually not recommend people to buy birds in petstore unless they been certified with some seriously hard to get certificates.
When I bought Nicke I was a bit shocked of the handling of the bird to say at least.
And we could not verify his exact age either but we found out later that he must have been just above a year old from a friend with more experience with this particular breed.
If buy a bird from a person breeding them you will have the great benefit of a companion that is used to hands. Nice was not very fond of our hands in the beginning and it took us a lot of effort and time to teach him that we was not dangerous to him.

Later on Nicke was a bit depressed and we gave him to our friend who gave him some bird buddies and it turned out that Nicke was a Nicki.
So it turned out that she wanted some companionship to feel happy again wich she is now.

So this bird is quite easy to deal with but read more then one book to know it better and try buy one thats been introduced to hands since its birth.

Good luck out there .
