I've had two cockatiels, both of which were active, noisy birds who loved to squawk and bite. That being said, they were also very loving and lovable.
The male cockatiel was a bit more aggressive than the female, but also loved to cuddle and be lightly scratched. He had a brighter and more vivid color.
They both made near constant noise, ranging from songs to squawks to a repeated mantra of "pretty bird, pretty boy." I don't recommend these birds if you require a quiet home, but if you like the noises they make or don't mind them, then they're very nice birds to have in your home.
They also need their nails trimmed regularly, especially if they don't have perches in their cage to help file them down. Their wings should also be clipped every few months if you don't want them to fly in your home an possibly escape. Both of these are dangerous to the bird if not done right, so be very careful if you're considering getting one.
Having cockatiels was a good experience for me, and if you can take care of all their needs and can tolerate their noises, I absolutely recommend them!
