We loved having our cockatiel pet. Larry was our first and only bird pet. We acquired him when he was fairly young (though I'm not positive how young) and within several months, taught him to whistle the cat-call. When we were home, we often allowed him to come out of his cage, and he would happily fly around our room singing while my sister and I did our schoolwork. We'd put him in his cage in the evening. He was easy to take care of, and I don't recall a single pet visit. We provided for his simple needs -- he loved eating spinach, and seeds. He was a very messy eater, though! He loved to toss the shells of his seeds anywhere he could. But he was a fun, entertaining pet to have, and so pretty to look at, with soft gray feathers and a yellow/green crest in the front and small splotches of orange on his face.
