My time with the wings

My grandfather was a bird lover and he got a cockatiel as a birthday gift from all his sons, five years ago. Around the same time, we started living in the same house and, therefore, I got a big familiarity with this bird, mainly after my grandfather passed away – he was the main keeper of Bill, our cockatiel. Despite of the fact I had never had a experience with birds before, with some time I learned how to deal with him, and I can say I’m very satisfied, in general. I was very familiarized with dogs and cats during all my life, so I always want to hug and squeeze Bill, but birds are not this kind of pet. They need some space and privacy more than other types of animals. There are also some times in the year, like when they are changing their feathers, in which they are a little more sensitives and want a little more their own space. Besides, it is necessary some caution (trimmed wings, attention when letting them free and some care with domestic accidents that may hurt them). Despite these points, which are typical of a bird, in general they are a great pet, even for kids. They are sociable, easy to care, funny and they have a very interesting personality. They are also a great option for those who want to have a first experience with a pet other than cat or dog, but are not prepared yet for an exotic animal.
