Cockatiel needs lots of attention

I tried having a cockatiel as a pet once but it didn't work out too well. I did not realize when I bought him that they required a lot of time and attention from their owners, almost like a child. Every day when I would come home from work this bird would screech until I came and spent time with him. No matter how quiet I was coming in the door he would hear me and make an awful racket until I went to see him. You would not believe how much noise such a relatively small bird could make. I really liked him and he was easy to feed and healthy but finally realized that I couldn't give him the attention he needed. I ended up giving him to a co-worker whose young son loved the bird and spent time training him every day. It worked out well in the end and both bird and little boy were happy, and so was I.
