My family and I have had 2 cockatiels and as pets they are incredibly easy to care for and look after. The male bird 'Cheeko', was incredibly friendly and would happily sit on my mother's shoulder as she went about the housework, and would even cuddle into her neck. He was however, quite protective of her, and eventually this caused problems where he would peck and bite anybody else who tried to come near her.

Both cockatiels would fly freely around the house, the only downside was that they weren't toilet trained too well, so you would find droppings everywhere! They are intelligent and sociable birds and should be socialised with many members of the family from an early age to avoid a protective nature from developing.
