I honestly do believe that cockatiels are almost always the ideal pet bird. In general, they are sweet, intelligent, interactive, not too loud, and overall great to be around. In my experience with cockatiels, I have found them to be incredibly quick at getting comfortable around new people, and easily adaptable to new situations. That being said though, it is important to not take these good qualities for granted. These birds, just like any bird, need positive reinforcement training, a proper diet (good quality pellets, fresh fruits/veggies) and the opportunity to come out of their enclosure and explore their environment. Sometimes, especially with smaller birds, people keep them in their cages - thinking that they are content because of their tiny size. In fact little birds spend just as much of their time flying (and often times, even more so) than their larger counterparts, so it is incredibly important that they be given an opportunity to use their muscles, interact with new objects, and gain courage by learning about their own environment.
