Acquired: Pet store

I highly recommend Cockatiels as a family bird. C.G. was a great, easy to handle bird that my family got from a pet store back in the '80's. He was a friendly, active bird. We named him C.G. short for "Crazy, Grey Bird" because he was always trying to do tricks, or hanging upside down. He mainly ate bird seed, a good cockatiel mix, but sometimes he ate some of our food. He especially liked spaghetti so we'd have to keep him in his cage when we ate it or else he might fly down and try to land on the edge of our plates.
He learned a few words, i.e. Hello, Pretty Bird. His speech was not clear. It sounded more like he was whistling "Hello" or "Pretty Bird". He loved being out of his cage and spent a lot of time in the evenings while we were home wandering around our living room or hanging out with us while we watched TV.
Cockatiels are very easy to take care of and feed. They are social creatures so they shouldn't just be put in a cage to look at! This can lead to issues where the bird plucks out feathers and is miserable!
