I currently have 3 Cockatiels, a 10 year old from a petstore, a 5 year old owner rehome, and a 2 year old rescue. they all have very different personality's. the 10 year old is not a friendly bird in any way, but he is attached to me, in the sense that he will always come straight to me if he in unsure and when he gets guardy, he will stop mid strike when he realizes its me he is about to bite. this is not the case with anyone else, he will dive bomb strangers and family members. he is very hand shy, he is only OK with my hands if he is already sitting on me, I cannot put my hands near him otherwise, he will bite. he does however respond very well to perches and I can take him anywhere via perch. the owner rehome is a female, she is amazing, super friendly, super curious, very tame, he only downside is that she is a chronic egg layer and no methods have helped at all. the 3rd is a rescue, he had no previous taming, he is very jumping and a little nippy, but coming along well. he was surrendered because of very long very loud screeching..while he is far more vocal then any other 'tiel I have or have had, he has never once screeched since I have had him. my birds are not super tame but this works for me, I do not have a lot of time to spend with my birds, they just have free range of a room with a huge cage and jungle gyms, so as long as they are happy, content and see me as a friend, I am happy.
