You Need to Find the Right Cockatiel

I have had several cockatiels back in the 1970s and 1980s. They were my first birds. The are adorable and look like little tin soldiers come to life. There are a variety of colors that you can get and they are all the same type of bird.

These birds can live to be 30 years old, although most won't make it through their first couple of years due to neglect. If you give them a good diet and a loving home, this bird will be with you for a very long time.

Their personalities will vary dramatically. Make sure whichever one you get has been to the vet to be tested for Psittacosis. This bird disease is very common with the little birds because people usually do not take them to the vet. Play with the bird for a while to make sure you get along well with it. If not, choose a different one. Some are not nice birds and some are super sweet.
