My Cockatiel Max

I received Max from a friend when he was already much older. His wings were clipped, so he could not fly very well. I would take him outside with me sometimes and all around the house. He would sit on my shoulder. We had litters of puppies from time to time and he would walk around on the floor and sing to them. It was so cute. He would sit by me on the arm of the couch and bend his head over for me to pet him. He would nip me every once in a while, not very hard. Mostly just to get my attention or if I stopped petting him before he was ready :) I would not recommend a cocktail for small children.
They are small and a bit delegate so younger children could be rough with them and get pecked. They do live a long time in captivity, so you need to realize you are taking on a longterm responsibility if you choose to get one. Daily maintenance is not too expensive or difficult. But, cages need to be kept clean and they are messy, throwing seeds, etc.
Max liked to walk around on the floor, so you have to be extremely careful not to stop on him. You also have to be very careful if you have others pets and make sure they get along since they are small.
I didn't find him excessively noisy, but they are definitely not quiet either, so that is something else to consider.
I enjoyed having Max as a pet. He loved to sit on the Christmas tree around the holidays, was great with our other animals, and friendly.
