Georgie is a loving Parakeet Cockatiel I got as a gift from my grandfather who used to be a breeder. He came to us as a tiny bird and since very young got used to being around people. Georgie is living now in the Eastern Cape in South Africa and it’s being looked after by my mother who loves him as much as I do.

Georgie enjoys his daily routine that starts as soon as his cage cloth is removed in the morning. He is then let loose to walk around the house, jump on the sofa or climb people’s shoulders. He enjoys the first rays of sunlight in the morning, shout at the top of his lungs and spread sunflower seeds all over the place. He also loves sharpening his beak on hard sea shells which we pick up every time we are walking along the beach.

He can be quite loud at times, especially if the phone rings or there are visitors around. He likes attention and if he doesn't get it, he screams! Lots of TLC and a watchful eye are required if you wish to own one of these. My neighbors have cats and that’s a good reason to keep an eye on him at all times.

I would recommend a cockatiel to everyone who’s looking for a low maintenance pet that doesn't ask much apart from lots of love and attention. You don’t need much space and they are so easy to train!
