Cockatiels are regal looking birds with a top knot on their heads and bright reddish orange cheek patches.

The Good....Captain was friendly, particularly in his younger years. But I wouldn't say this is a good pet for a young child. Patience and lot of attention is necessary. It is best to get a young bird that can be trained, rather than an older one who is a little more set in its ways. Captain loved to mimic words, however, this ability is not as pronounced in this type of bird as it is others. The words sound garbled and birdy, but are nonetheless entertaining. They especially like treats like millet, unsalted Ritz crackers, and cracked nuts.

The Not So Good...He was very cranky in the last couple years of his life and really didn't want to interact that much with people. They can sometimes learn very irritating noises such as alarm clocks and smoke detectors.
