I grew up on a farm in the Caribbean and so animals were all around me. Most of the animals were for food and so I asked my grandfather for some animals that would not have to go to slaughter. One day he came home with 4 Caribbean doves and I spent all my free time caring for them. They were a joy to have and very easy to maintain.
My grandmother would warn me about letting them out of their cage. I always felt like they were some of the most intelligent birds and I had daily conversations with them. On occasions, I would let them out and they would always return. However, one day they became the victims of one of my dogs and they flew away and never returned.
Nevertheless, they brought me peace for the time they were with me and are some of the easiest birds for a child to care for.
