first off i love having parakeets around. i love their constant chatter and their boundless energy. i am appalled at most of these responses to owning a parakeet and i would say most of these people had no business owning a parakeet. i guess because they feel they are so cheap to buy they require very little care. i wouldnt recommend these people own fish either as they are messy and require quite a bit of mainenance also if you want a healthy happy aquarium. any creature brought into your home requires work to maintain their health and vigor. these idiots seem to think all parakeets should eat are seeds. no wonder they only live 2 years tops. no child is capable of keeping a paparkeet or anyother bird without someone to help them and show them the proper way to care for them. i have never been interested in training my keets and prefer to let them come to me on their own terms. they are only allowed out in a closed room where they have free flight. they have such a super cage that they usually only come out to greet me play on their play stand fly around the room land on me and give me kisses say hello and go back into their cage. i have four large parrots and do not allow any interaction between any of my birds so no injuries occur everyone is happy does their own thing. i would suggest to these people that gave their keets such a miserable life to stick with their ipods, ipads, iphones and xboxs and not to slowly and cruelly kill any more birds that they have no idea how to care for and it seems no interest in learning. it seems none of them had the intelligence to even feed their keets green leafy veggies or fruits or even pellets just cheap bird seed.
