Billy, our little blue budgie was a lovely, albeit aggressive little bird and as long as you stayed out of his cage, your fingers were safe from his razor-sharp beak! Although we did often manage to brave his beak to give him some 'out of cage' time and let him fly around the living room for a while.
Although Billy was a cute little bird and quite friendly, I think the mistake we made which we never rectified was to keep him alone in his cage with no partner to keep him company. As a result, he would often be silent and very inactive just sitting on his perch.
I also discovered that when I took his cage outside to give him some fresh air he suddenly became a different bird. His eyes lit up and he broke into song like never before, imitating and communicating with the other birds in the vicinity.
From my experience, if you are going to get a budgie, get two and you'll be rewarded with vibrant and energetic birds that give you lots of joy and moments of laughter.
Although they can be aggressive with the biting and seem to be almost untrainable, Budgies are sweet and can be very entertaining pets for young children.
