My budgies have been such a joy to live with. Arnie was my first bird and I could not ask for a better introduction to bird care. He was patient with me when I did stupid things, bit me when I needed it, and mimicked many of my wife and I's words. He would come and help us eat dinner, complain about whatever was on his mind, and play furiously with his toys. Sadly I lost him at age 5 to a tumor that was inoperable. I miss him more than I can ever say.
Petey came to us as a rescue from my work at the pet store. She was living with a family that didn't care for her and spent no time with her. She was given to us and now is shown all the love she could want. She is a grumpy old lady, but loves to come sing her budgie song to me when I bring her out. She is a bit more nippy than Arnie, so we have to be a little careful with her.
I cannot recommend this species enough, but look for a reputable breeder to minimize health problems.
