I purchased my budgie as a baby from a local breeder. I did teach him to eat from my hands.

As he was my pet, I wanted the best for him on my minimal budget. I build a cage for him that was 30"x24"x24". I wanted him to be able to fly around his cage and not be stuck just hopping from one perch to another. While he was still young, I did get him used to being petted and me being able to pick him up.

While I would be in my room, I would close the door and let him out to fly around. He would sometimes sit on my shoulder or other furniture in the room, but mostly he would fly from curtain rod to curtain rod. He liked the high area where he could see everything.

When it came time to put him back in his cage, I would usually have to climb on the bed and grab him from one of the curtain rods.

I thoroughly enjoyed having the bird during my informative years.
