Charlie the budgie was a dear pet when I was of primary school age. He was given to my family by my uncle who had at that stage nowhere to keep the bird.
He was easy to feed and was great company but I was responsible for his untimely end. I wanted to hold Charlie on my hand and tried to grab him in the cage. Charlie made a break for it and flew up onto the back fence.
Within minutes the neighbors cat caught the bird and Charlie was gone. It was a less learnt well as a young child but at the expense of a pet we all enjoyed.
