As a budgie breeder I can safely say that these birds are fabulous. Their colours can vary so much and so can their personalities! They only have small beaks so they don't hurt when they nip you and they are great pets for children. These pets are small, they aren't scary, but that doesn't mean they are short in style! They are easy to care for, not that messy and can be great at mimicry. Recently I had a female lay some eggs in the middle of winter (which is not unusual) but when they hatched I felt that I had to hand raise the chicks for fear of them dyeing from the cold. I named one of them Ralph. He is a great pet, loves people and other budgies and was generally an awesome bird to raise. Budgies are great for people who are new at breeding birds. There is so much information out there on how to do it and it can be so easy! Bear in mind though, hand raising is entirely different and should only be used when their is no other choices.
