I've owned two budgerigar's who were elders from a family who could no longer take care of them. We were a bit worried since they were already much older that they wouldn't take too well to being in a new environment with entirely new people, but after a few days they started to get along just well. These birds can be very adaptable to change.

Even for their age they were very vocal if you were around them and the oldest (Tweet) would even let my father handle him from time to time. They were very low maintenance as well, their cage was an easy clean and they weren't picky at all about their feed/treats. They are of course also a very beautiful breed their feathering is usually a very lovely shade of blues and yellows and greens.

Even with their age they never had any kind of health issues and got on just perfect and healthy. They were re-homed to a trainer friend who has many other budgies and are still doing quite well even for being a bit above their expected life span. I would definitely recommend this bird to any new owners who want to have their first bird or anyone who needs an easy going but independent pet.
