Sparky was a small bird with a huge personality.

I was only 10 when my family got Sparky. He was very gregarious and loved being around people. We often let him out of the cage and he would wander around the living room, perch on the mantle or cling to the curtains.

Sparky also really liked home brewed beer.
Dad used to brew beer at home, and when he was watching TV with a beer in his glass, Sparky would watch him closely. When Dad was not paying attention Sparky would perch on the rim of the glass and drink. Until Dad noticed and shooed him away.

As kids we thought this was hilarious, and on a couple of occasions when the glass was not attended, Sparky drank a bit too much, and had to be put in his cage.

We also had a Boxer (dog) named Trixie who loved sitting on the mat by the fire. Sparky loved tormenting Trixie. Sparky would watch Trixie from a high vantage, and when Trixie closed her eyes Sparky would swoop down and land on her head.

Trixie would look up and look around with Sparky perched motionless on her head. Not seeing anything Trixie would settle back down and close her eyes. As soon as the eyes shut, Sparky, still perched on Trixie's head, would lean forward and peck her nose. Trixie again would look around not seeing the bird on her head. This would go on for hours.
I wish YouTube was around back then!

Sparky was a lot of fun, and from memory easy to care for (of course that wasn't my responsibility). He was with us for quite a while, but I don't recall how long.

I have considered getting a Bird again, but having a couple of cats at home currently I don't think it would be entirely fair.
