I first got my current budgerigar seven years ago at a pet store when she was around one month old. Since then, she's lived a very healthy life with me at home. She is extremely easy to care for as all I have to do for her is change her food and water every one to two days and then switch out the bottom tray of the cage every week or so. Occasionally, I also give her a shower by dripping water on her which she enjoys quite a bit. While she is easy to care for, she is still afraid of me when I put my hand in the cage, and it takes her a couple minutes to warm up to me and step on my finger. I definitely don't feel as attached with her as I do with my dog, but she is still a lovely pet to have in the house and to listen to when she sings.

Overall, in my opinion, budgies are great pets to have if you want to just be able to look at them but get more difficult if you want to be able to build a real bond as training in my experience has been relatively difficult to come by.
