I was twelve and wanted a pet, but my parents didn't think we could handle a dog yet, so we settled on a bird. Blue was fairly easy to take care of and was nice enough to those who handled her gently, but she didn't have much going personality-wise compared to other pets I've had. I'm not sure if this is the case for the breed, or birds in general compared to dogs, but that's just my experience.
She was never too loud, and her occasional happy chirping definitely made the house more pleasant. She wasn't too keen on learning any tricks or on learning new phrases, but we never had formal bird training, so maybe we just couldn't figure out what motivated her.
Blue eventually escaped from her cage one day and we never saw her again. We missed her, but figured she must have found a better life outside of her cage!
