My parakeet was one of my favorite pets of all time.
He was beautiful to see, a lovely mix of light blue and white with touches of black.
He was so friendly and had such a good temperament.
He was very social right off the bat. I could let him fly around and he'd come right to me and sit on my shoulder while I did housework, playing with my earrings and necklaces.
He would mimic kiss sounds and speak general blurble, haha. He was amusing to watch and hear.
He would often run back and forth along the bottom of his cage, bobbing his head as he went. He just seemed like a really happy, silly bird.
His cage was easy to clean for the most part. Sometimes there'd be the odd bit of poop that took some scrubbing, but if you have enough liner/bedding, it's minimal.
The setup isn't exactly cheap but it isn't too much. I was 18 living in my own home with my ex, with only him working, when I had my parakeet, and I bought it all myself.
Parakeets do need a lot of attention, they're very social creatures and won't fare well if they're ignored or can't get out and fly sometimes. They need a lot of interaction.
