I had a budgie when I was a kid and she was easily one of my favorite pets. My family gave me Chippy for a valentine's day gift when I was about 6 or 7, and though she unfortunately didn't last very long, she was a beloved part of the family.

Our experience with this species of bird was mostly positive, but she could be very bitey. As with most birds, she would mostly bite when you reached in to take her out of the cage; once she was on your fingers, she would stop biting and would become very affectionate. In fact, if you held her up to your lips and made kissy noises, she would actually gently open and close her beak against your lips to give you kisses back, which we always found adorable. She also loved taking "showers" under the water from the kitchen faucet.

One thing I'd want to warn any potential owners of is not to keep the bird in or near the kitchen. We didn't know any better and kept Chippy's cage in the corner of our kitchen, where she was apparently exposed to toxic fumes from the teflon pans we used. She eventually developed a large tumor below her belly as a result, which weighed her down while flying one day and caused her to fall.

Overall, a very enjoyable and manageable pet, and I miss her to this day!
