Budgerigar as Pet

When I was young I was gifted a Budgerigar as a pet. I was so fascinated by the science, I actually named her the nickname of the breed: Budgie. Budgie was a very easy going pet. We taught him to fly around the house, talk, and play. He did some really cute cage tricks. He was a very hearty and fun bird. The few problems we had were more about health. The first was that he suffered a broken leg when I stepped on him, as he preferred to walk on the floor. He survived and thrived with his leg healed. The second was just that if you have a bird, be prepared for the mess that the cage can be (and it never stays in the cage). The final thing was that Budgie developed a tumor and eventually died.

Budgie was fun, smart, great with the family and not just the owner. I would highly recommend this as a first bird for someone who is interested in birds as it was a great experience.
