Grusha was a bird I got from some distant relatives. I didn't know much about birds, so when the heater broke one winter she ended up being too cold and she died. So tip #1 if you wan to own a pet is probably go read more about how to take care of it.
I never tried to train her or anything, I really liked her happy chirping in the mornings and how she kept me company on lonely days when both my parents were working late.
Taking basic care of her was fairly easy - she ate some various seeds we could get at any grocery store, we used paper to keep her from pooping all over the cage and we took her to the vet by just covering the cage with a cloth and trying to keep it as still as possible.
Sometimes we let her fly around the room - but please note that no one can open any doors and you really have to watch your step because some birds like to sit on the floor or on the doors and you might squash it accidentally (which almost happened to Grusha).
She was a calm and wonderful companion for a person who doesn't want anything that's too high-maintenance or social but wants to feel like there's someone there.
