Growing up with budgies

Sky was my first pet. My father bought her from a pet store when I was about 8 years old, and she lived until I was 16. Some of my fondest memories involve her singing along while I practiced the piano, perching on my shoulder while I did my homework, and giving the whole family kisses. While we did not really attempt to train her, she did respond to whistling and singing with a beautiful voice. The only problem was that she was a bit messy. She ate tiny seeds and often littered the carpet outside of her cage with the shells. We left the door to her cage open during the day so she could fly around, which required quite a bit of clean-up, but in my opinion, the the maintenance was worth it. We loved watching her fly around and were both comforted and amused when she nuzzled up in our hair. My budgie was a wonderful pet to grow up with.
