Birds for a teenager

Growing up I had friends who owned birds, and I fell in love with the idea. That Christmas (I was 16) I received 2 female parakeets - one was white with some blue on her head and the other way a bright blue/grey/white. They were beautiful to look at and their quiet chirping was something I loved hearing. They played with toys in their cages and would stand on my finger (after a lot of training) but didn't enjoy being out of the cage or around too many people. They were relatively clean (I had a great cage that was easy to clean) and I enjoyed their company very much! Unfortunately they met an untimely end when I had a pet sitter watch them and she fed them a food that was toxic. I would absolutely have budgies in the future! They're beautiful and affectionate if you train them well. I would recommend them to a responsible family or person who can appreciate the quiet noises (and the loud ones...)
