Owning a Parakeet/Budgie

I had Ornery for around 5yrs.  She was very fun, very active, and ruled the roost!  Parakeets can learn to talk fairly well, and  have been known to have large vocabularies, though mine never did (she whistled).  She was not keen on petting, cuddling, or scritches.  But loved to ride around and crawl all over whatever human she happened to be on (she also love to crawl into shirts).  She was very entertaining with her antics, often flying or crawling down from her cage to toodle around on the floor exploring and then climbing up your leg when she felt she wanted attention.  They are fairly low maintenance for a bird.  Unfortunately she was my first bird, and I made the mistake many 1st time bird owner's do, thinking an all seed diet was all that was necessary.  I believe that Ornery's health paid the price as a result.  But thanks to her ("I miss you Ornery"), I learned a lot and became a better bird owner!
