Rachel the Budgie

As a child I had a pet Budgie. It is the only time I have had a bird for a pet. Budgies are beautiful and very colorful. They can also be very noisy. I would take Rachel out of her cage and carefully stroke her feathers. She would go for little flights around the house. We would take the opportunity to clean the cage once a week. Budgies go through a lot of seed and can be very messy. Rachel and Bluey loved getting seed into their water trough, and all over the bottom of the cage. They might have been beautiful birds, but boy did they make a mess.

Caring for one or many budgies is very easy, but you have to keep the cage clean on a weekly basis. It also depends on how much time you spend with them. If you just clean the cage and feed them, the budgies will keep their distance and avoid contact. Like with any domesticated animal, you have to make contact, and keep it up to form a bond with budgies. Especially if you want them to sit on your arm or shoulder and teach them tricks.

My Rachel loved pets and her short flights. She had a sweet disposition about her. I would love to have another budgie again, as so far I think they are the easiest bird to have as a pet.
